Change is Never Easy

Author: Kiran Pk

The more you want to do your own thing, or the more you want to follow your heart, the less worthy advice other individuals will be able to give you. When I decided that I wanted to give up investment banking and get back to what I really wanted to be doing, individuals thought I was nuts. My friends thought I was crazy, my family thought I was on dope and my co-workers thought I had become chemically imbalanced (save for one..) Why wasn't I trying to do something more traditional, some thing more acceptable in society, something a lot easier to digest. One uncle of mine thought I was getting into Amway or something like that..whatever.

You don't know if your idea is any worthy the moment it's thought of. Neither does anyone else. The most you can hope for is a strong gut feeling that it is. And having faith in your feelings is not as easy as most individuals think it is or even trusting your feelings is not as easy as the optimists say it is.

There's a reason why feelings scare us. And asking close friends never works quite as well as you hope, either. It's not that they deliberately want to be unhelpful. It's just they don't know your world one millionth as well as you know your world, no matter how hard they try, no matter how hard you try to explain.

Plus a enormous idea will change you. Your friends may love you, but they don't want you to change. If you change, then their dynamic with you also changes. They like things the way they are, that's how they love you- the way you are, not the way you may become. Also it's not that they don't want you to change or move forward, it's just that, more often than not, they're as stumped as you are and don't really know where this is going, and as all individuals do...they fear the unknown.

Following your heart is sometimes the hardest thing to do and even harder for your loved ones to see. You will always have friends who will be there for you when you fall. It's just that some will tell you to pick yourself up and others will bitch about you in all ways possible and say things like "yeah! I told him, it was stupid, but did he listen?!". You need to decide who to hold where. I've learnt that...the hard way. It's almost like trying to see in the dark. Will the darkness endure once you have chosen your path or will you have a new begining exactly the way you hoped for?

It's like having a worthy idea...If your idea is so worthy that it changes your dynamic enough to where you need them less, then they're going to resist your idea every chance they can. Again, that's human nature.

GOOD IDEAS ALTER THE POWER BALANCE IN RELATIONSHIPS, THAT IS WHY GOOD IDEAS ARE ALWAYS INITIALLY RESISTED.

Good ideas come with a heavy burden. Which is why so few individuals have them. So few individuals can handle it.
